The first AGS meeting was quite the event, as numerous excited new and returning members scuttled into the tiny Viking Den. Thank you for all of those who came!

Introductions- The meeting started off with introductions of the officers, beginning with AGS’ president Mandy Spaugh. Mandy introduced herself and what she does as president, also explaining the clubs goals. AGS is definitely NOT a sorority or fraternity, but a club that encourages leadership skills while developing good character and recognizing scholarship. Next, Vice-President Renee DeMaree, Treasurer Johnny Tran, Points Secretary Caitlin Mckinney, Recording Secretary Roberto Rodriguez, and Webmaster Laura Sylvan all introduced their positions (which are explained in full detail on ags.sylvan.com.) The officers also explained the coordinating positions available in the club. As coordinators, club members will have the opportunity to hone leadership skills and work closely with officers and other club members (for details, please refer to the coordinator application on ags.sylvan.com.)

T-Shirt Contest- Next, Roberto introduced the T-Shirt contest. While specific information about the contest is still tentative, this is an excellent opportunity for aspiring artists of all fields to get their work exposed around campus! Though specific information will be handed out later, for those who wish to get something rough started now, remember that the design MUST be gender neutral and MUST say AGS (Alpha Gamma Sigma Honor Society.) Overall, the design should just be fresh and fantastic.

Upcoming Events and Club Information- The advisors (Tina Golaw, Andrew Kindon, and Tim Kelly) introduced themselves and gave more specific information about the club. Tina explained the points policy, scholarships, exemptions, and the general application process (please refer to the AGS application available on ags.sylvan.com for more information.) Remember that applications for membership and coordinator positions are both due on September 24th!

Pow Wow- Your first opportunity for community service points is here! The annual West Valley Pow Wow, on September 27th, is looking for volunteers and AGS members should take this chance to get ahead of the game! Contact Tina for more information.
