Alpha Gamma Sigma Honor Society
West Valley College, Gamma Iota Chapter
Meeting Minutes
Wednesday, April 16, 2008
John F. called the meeting to order.
Then, Jasmine and Molly suggested we play the icebreaker, ``In the Hot Seat.''
Next, Dr. Kindon spoke about the Gamma Iota Scholarship opportunity. First, he encouraged everyone to apply, and stated that the majority of the money raised through fundraising goes towards these scholarships. Then, he stated that applications should have been received via email this week, and need to be turned in to Dr. Kelly on or before the April 30 meeting.
After that, Kellie S. spoke about community service. She briefly reminded the club about the two last organized community service events, the beach clean up and West Fest. If you are interested, please contact either of our Community Service Coordinators. In addition, Kellie mentioned that those needing ideas for individual community service should contact her.
Then, Mandy spoke about ICC. She said that ICC is going ahead with the Spring Thing, and AGS will be selling snow cones at our booth. Sign-ups to man the booth will commence next week.
Next, Katie spoke about fundraising. She reiterated that there are three more opportunities to earn fundraising points. The first opportunity is the ``Go Green'' fundraiser. Please remember to bring in your plastic bottles and aluminum cans on April 23, with a tally of your totals. The second and the third opportunity will be the ``Crazy Hat'' and ``A Kiss Goodbye.'' Sign-ups to man the booth and hand out deliveries have already commenced. Please contact our Fundraising Coordinators, if you would like to participate.
Then, Kelly P. and Caitlin spoke about the Blood Drive. Kelly and Caitlin had their meeting with the Red Cross representative, and organization for the event is moving forward. The Blood Drive Coordinators are forming a Blood Drive Committee, and so if you are interested in joining, you should contact them. In addition, Kelly wanted to emphasize that you should not rely solely on this event for community service points, due to the limited number of positions available. Therefore, if you are extremely interested in participating, you need to make a firm commitment as soon as possible.
Lastly, Brittany spoke about the Teacher Appreciation Dinner. This event is fast approaching, and more assistance is needed to make it successful. Again, Brittany mentioned we need more donations. In addition, in terms of the decorating sessions, this Friday's decorating session has been moved to Thursday, but next Friday's will be at the regular time. Furthermore, for those who have invited a teacher, you need to speak to your invited guest in order to assure they received their invitation.
John F. closed the meeting.
