Meeting Minutes
Wednesday, March 5, 2008
John began the meeting by welcoming those in attendance.
Jasmine and Molly then suggested we play the icebreaker, “Human Knot”.
After that, Kelly and Caitlin spoke about this semester’s blood drive, which is scheduled for May 7, 2008 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. The Blood Drive Coordinators have opted for a Cinco de Mayo theme; therefore, they are looking for Mexican food donations (burritos, tacos, Mexican cookies, etc.) and any props or music that will enhance the theme. If you have any other suggestions, please contact the Blood Drive Coordinators. Furthermore, Kelly and Caitlin are planning to meet with the Red Cross point of contact towards the end of March, and so they should have more information after the meeting. Remember there will be many opportunities to earn community service points for sign-ups and assisting donors during the drive.
Next, Brittany spoke about the Teacher Appreciation Dinner, which is scheduled to take place Monday, April 28, 2008. For those of you new to AGS, the Teacher Appreciation Dinner is a dinner held in honor of teachers and staff at WVC. Everyone is welcome to invite a teacher or staff member to accompany him or her to the dinner. If you are planning to attend, you must decide on a teacher or staff member and let Brittany know by our next meeting on Wednesday, March 12, 2008. This semester the theme is going to be a circus theme, and Brittany is planning to call it “Under the Big Top.” For those planning to attend, you will be asked to donate various ingredients for dishes, which Brittany plans to prepare, and you will be asked to solicit donations for prizes from local businesses. A copy of a solicitation letter is available on our website, and tax identification numbers are available upon request from the establishments. Remember every Friday up until the dinner, there will be opportunities to assist Brittany with the preparation for this event. These preparation sessions will go from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, and hours will be worth general points.
Then, Saba spoke about the See’s Candy fundraiser. This fundraiser began this week, and orders are due at our next meeting on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at 3:30 pm. You may turn in orders before our meeting by slipping your envelope under Tina’s office door before 3:00 pm on Wednesday, March 12, 2008. Please note 3:00 pm is the latest you can turn in orders before our meeting. DO NOT put envelopes in Tina’s mailbox or tape it on her office door. In addition, please keep the top portion of your order form for your records and be sure to obtain detailed information concerning your customers because it is your responsibility to distribute orders. Orders will be available for pick up during the following meeting on Wednesday, March 19, 2008. Remember it is one fundraising point for the first item you sell, and every additional point will be granted for every four items you sell after that.
Next, Renee and Katie spoke about a couple of fundraising opportunities. First, Wednesday, March 19, 2008 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm will be our Chevy’s Night fundraiser. We encourage everyone to invite as many people as they can to this event because Chevy’s will donate 25 percent of the proceeds to our club. It is one point for attending and one point for every additional three people you bring to this event. A few notes: 1) participates must present a Chevy’s Night flyer to their waiter; 2) it is one flyer per party; 3) parties should staple their receipt to their flyer, and 4) if additional flyers are needed, please email the fundraising coordinators prior to the fundraiser. Second, Monday, March 10, 2008 through Thursday, March 13, 2008 will be our Saint Patrick’s bake sale and Saint Patrick’s raffle. If you are interested in participating, please contact our Fundraising Coordinators.
Finally yet importantly, Christy spoke about an opportunity to assist during Capri Elementary School’s Walk-a-Thon towards the end of May. More information will be presented next week.
John closed the meeting.
