Meeting Minutes
Wednesday, February 27, 2008

John welcomed those in attendance, and introduced the new Activities Coordinators, Jasmine and Molly.  Jasmine and Molly began the meeting by suggesting we play the icebreaker, Two Truths and a Lie.

Next, Brittany spoke about the Teacher Appreciation Dinner, which is scheduled to take place Monday, April 28, 2008.  For those of you new to AGS, the Teacher Appreciation Dinner is a dinner held in honor of teachers and staff at WVC.  Everyone is welcome to invite a teacher or staff member to accompany him or her to the dinner.  Sign-ups are already underway, so quickly decide on a teacher or staff member and let Brittany know as soon as possible. This semester the theme is going to be a circus theme, and Brittany is planning to call it “Under the Big Top.”  For those planning to attend, you will be asked to donate various ingredients for dishes, which Brittany plans to prepare, and you will be asked to solicit donations for prizes from local businesses.  Tax identification numbers are available upon request from the establishments.  Beginning this Friday and every Friday up until the dinner, there will be opportunities to assist Brittany with the preparation for this event.  These preparation sessions will go from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, and hours will be worth general points.

Subsequently, Kellie and Philip, our new Community Service Coordinators were introduced.  Notification of community service opportunities will be forthcoming.

After that, the new State Convention Coordinator, Greg, spoke about the State Convention.  As you may know, Alpha Gamma Sigma is a statewide club with chapters at most California community colleges.  The State Convention is an opportunity for all chapters to assemble and participate in a weekend of seminars, activities, and fun.  Best of all, this year’s State Convention is conveniently located in San Jose at the Doubletree Hotel, and will take place during spring break from April 4 through 6.  The registration deadline is Wednesday, March 5, which means forms and the registration fee of $65.00 are due to advisors at the beginning of our meeting.  For more information about the convention, please refer to http://www.ags-honor.com.

Then, Saba spoke about fundraising.  First, she congratulated members for their efforts during the Bake Sale.  She had not counted all earnings, but we did well.  Next, Saba mentioned our See’s Candy fundraising will begin next week.  It is one fundraising point for the first item you sell, and every additional point will be granted for every four items you sell after that.

Next, the new fundraising coordinators, Renee and Katie were introduced.  They mentioned that so far they are considering restaurants for the fundraising night and a car wash.

Next, our new Publicity Coordinator, Michael was introduced.  He mentioned he is available for any flyers or publicity needed for any AGS events.

Then, our new Web-historian, Esther, was introduced.

Lastly, Kelly and Caitlin spoke about this semester’s blood drive, which is scheduled for May 7, 2008 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.  Some of the suggested theme ideas are Vampire versus Killer Bunny, Cinco de Mayo, and Lifesaver.  If you have any other suggestions, please contact the Blood Drive Coordinators. Remember there will be many opportunities to earn community service points for sign-ups and assisting donors during the drive.  In addition, Kelly and Caitlin are asking that AGS members donate enough food to feed 60 people.

John closed the meeting.
