Laura welcomed everyone and began the meeting.
John decided to play the “Stinger” game for this week’s icebreaker.
Logan talked about several community service opportunities. First off, he reminded the club to bring in cans for points during next week’s meeting. Once again, it is one community service point for every fifteen cans you donate. Bags for your cans can be picked up at the barrel near our bulletin board in the Campus Center. Secondly, Logan introduced opportunities to assist the Battered Women Shelter. If interested, contact Logan for more details. Thirdly, Logan reiterated the prospect of helping out Health Services.
Markis discussed the upcoming Red Cross Blood Drive on October 31st. He emphasized that we really need people to work the booths to sign donors up for the event. There are many openings on October 23rd, 24th, and 29th. Also, Markis encouraged members to sign up for the committee to help set up. It is one community service point for every hour you volunteer. During our next meeting, sign ups to assist during the blood drive will commence. Please take this opportunity to earn your community service points.
Behdad addressed the Regional State Convention, and mentioned that we need people to volunteer to drive. It was decided that after the meeting, the members going would negotiate who would be driving.
Kara announced the club managed to raise $128.00 during the second bake sale. Also, she reminded everyone that sign ups are still underway for the 3rd bake sale scheduled for November 13th and 14th. Furthermore, Kara spoke about the See’s Candy fundraising event. There are four items selling for $5.00 each. It is one point for the first item, and one additional point will be awarded for every $20.00 you sell. Orders must be submitted by November 21st at the start of the meeting. Some
reminders: 1. get the buyers’ name and phone number, so you can contact
them when their order arrives, 2. get the money at the time of order,
3. keep the top portion for yourself or make a photocopy of your order
sheet prior to turn in, 4. please double check your math, and 5. orders
can be turned in early to advisors prior to the deadline, but must be
received BEFORE 3:00 pm on November 21st.
Nick spoke about Chevy’s night and Laser Quest. Chevy’s night is scheduled for October 24th and November 7th. The flyers will be up on our website shortly. Print
a few copies up, share them with friends and family, and have them
stable the flyer to their receipt after dining at Chevy’s on the
specified days. Laser Quest is scheduled for November 8th at Shoreline. Family and friends are encouraged to participate.
Brittany talked about the Teacher Appreciation Dinner. She reminded those who have signed up to go and who have not confirmed with her to do so. She specified decorating of the Baltic Room on the day of the dinner would begin around noon and last until the dinner begins. This Friday, Brittany plans to be in the workroom around 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. The bears will be blown up and the invitations will be address and delivered. Moreover, Brittany would like to organize a shark committee to create a memorable shark head. Contact Brittany if interested. Furthermore, we are looking for extra beach gear
(i.e. silly sunglasses, beach balls, etc.). Start bringing items in, if available. Finally, we REALLY need donations. The donation letter is on our website. Just print it out and start handing it out to managers at local businesses.
Annalisa gave a points update, and indicated points should be up by next week. If you have a concern and would like to know your points status sooner, contact Annalisa.
Christy reminded the club about the Fall Fest at Capri Elementary School on October 27th. She thanked those who have already signed up, and invited others to volunteer as well. All volunteers will receive a free dinner and community service points for their time. There are still a lot of opportunities, including concessions and zombies. Please contact Christy if interested.
Dana reminded the club that the AIDS walk is this Sunday. She will be meeting those interested in attending at Discovery Meadow at 8:00 am.
Greg mentioned the music departments always needs people to help set up their functions. This would be another opportunity for community service points. Contact Lou Delarosa or Greg for dates and more information, if interested.
